The Hawkhurst Friendship Club is part of the charitable organisation called The Royal Voluntary Service (known previously as the Women Royal Voluntary Service). To quote the organisation’s code of conduct:
“The Royal Voluntary Service is an organisation whose purpose is to deliver practical support through the power of volunteering so older people get more out of life. To do this, our aim is to set and maintain consistently high standards in all the work we do. Our approach is always personal, practical, positive and professional”
In Hawkhurst, the Friendship Club has been going for over 40 years. It provides the opportunity for retired residents of Hawkhurst to meet alternate Wednesday afternoons at one of the local village halls in Copthall Avenue. This enables members to socialize with each other over a cup of tea and cake, as well as a programme of speakers and occasional outings. There are also fund-raising events within the club and those involving the general public.
As part of the club, there is a small group of volunteers who provide their services in all sorts of ways, such as transport for members to get to the club, organising events, socializing with members…. these are only some of the many valuable things they do!
If you are interested in joining the club as a member or becoming a volunteer for the RVS. Please do not hesitate to contact Margaret Taylor on 01580 753762.
